Adoption Resources
In our society, adoption is often portrayed as the happy ending to a traumatic story. We as clinicians know that this is not the case for many. The trauma of adoption is complex and lifelong, and we must be willing to have these conversations and allow adoptees to process their feelings guilt-free. For transracial adoptees, adoption can be even more complicated. These adoptees often experience adoption via the trauma of imperialism and white supremacy and suffer from mental health symptoms related to race-based traumatic stress, isolation, and loss.
