A little more about me

Some fun facts A song that will get me onto the dance floor. Get to know me A little less

Deee-Lite’s ‘Groove Is in the Heart’ will always get me up and dancing.

What working with me is like A conversational space where the details of your life matter. Explore my approach A little less

I work to build a genuine, compassionate relationship with you. My style is conversational, curious and attentive, with room for reflection and humor. I follow up on what you share and want to understand why it matters to you. We will identify goals together, build on your strengths and respect your choices about your own life.

What matters to me Authenticity, connection and accountability. Read my story A little less

I am a white, cisgender, straight-presenting, aging yet able-bodied person who benefits from privilege. I continue to learn from diverse voices and examine the assumptions I bring into therapy. Feminist principles inform my attention to power, oppression and identity, including within our relationship. I believe that understanding ourselves with more curiosity and less judgment can help us live more authentically and connect with others.

01 / Understanding yourself

Curiosity in place of judgement

“when we understand ourselves with less judgement and with more curiosity and acceptance, our lives are better.”

What shaped the way you care?

I believe a primary strength or benefit of therapy (with me) is to better understand and accept oneself without judgement. So that can mean better understanding your gender and sexuality; your intimate relationships; your losses and grief; your role in communities large and small (neighborhood to human race); your hopes, fears, desires and how they developed.
I think when we understand ourselves with less judgement and with more curiosity and acceptance, our lives are better.

02 / Being known

For people who value reflection and connection

“Someone who wants to be really seen, heard, and understood”

Who might feel especially understood by the way you approach therapy?

Someone who wants to be really seen, heard, and understood, even if that feels vulnerable. Someone who values deep, active reflection and curiosity about themself and the world. Someone who uses humor as part of the process.

03 / Paying attention

The details you share stay with me

“I'll remember what movie you watched and mentioned last session and why it felt important to you.”

If a client described you after their first few sessions, what would you hope they would say?

Approachable, attentive - really listening, curious, accepting, caring. I want my clients to feel I am present and genuinely working to get to know them and their context by asking questions, following up and remembering, and actively building connection. I'll remember what movie you watched and mentioned last session and why it felt important to you.

04 / Authenticity and liberation

Honouring ourselves and one another

“we can celebrate diverse human experiences, and lift each other up.”

Virginia Wendt, MSCP, LPC (she/her)

What do authenticity, liberation or living more abundantly mean within your work?

I believe that when we live authentically and in connection with others, we are closer to experiencing liberation. It's as important for me as I believe it is for my clients, and our work together. In better understanding ourselves and our context, we can honor that in others, we can celebrate diverse human experiences, and lift each other up.
