A little more about me
Some fun facts Books, painting, spooky things and a dog close by. Get to know me A little less
Outside work, I’m often reading or painting, usually with one of my dogs nearby. I enjoy golf, cooking, being outdoors and all things spooky. Travelling and trying new experiences also matter to me.
What working with me is like Warmth, validation and honest accountability. Explore my approach A little less
I bring a feminist approach and a commitment to being in your corner. You can expect space to express yourself and feel heard, alongside support to recognize patterns and make changes. I ask what has and has not helped in previous therapy, and adapt as I get to know you. Compassion and accountability can belong in the same conversation.
What matters to me Making room for more than one truth. Read my story A little less
Losing my son in the NICU when he was seven months old deepened my understanding of how grief, joy, heartbreak and love can exist together. That experience informs how I understand the layers of a person’s life. I do not want to reduce you to one feeling, choice or difficult experience. I want our work to make room for your complexity and for the changes you want to make.

Maria, in her own words.
A few reflections on what brings me to this work and how I show up in therapy.
There is more beneath the surface
“people are complicated with layers”

What do you believe people deserve from therapy that they may not always receive elsewhere?
I believe people deserve a space of no judgement where they can be met at their level. Too often people are judging of behaviors or thoughts and I think people struggle on the day to day to recognize that people are complicated with layers and there is always more to the picture than what is seen at the surface
Support that makes room for change
“give them the balance of safety and being heard”

Who might feel especially understood by the way you approach therapy?
I approach therapy often in a feminist way. Clients have told me that I meet them at a level of rage and action that feels empowering to them but also able to ground and support in a way that makes them feel heard and seen and safe. People often come to me when they are needing someone in their corner who is going to give them the balance of safety and being heard but not enable behaviors that are harmful to positive change anymore.
Feeling supported and challenged
“welcoming, warm, and safe.”

If a client described you after their first few sessions, what would you hope they would say?
I would hope a client would report that I am welcoming, warm, and safe. I aim to have clients leave sessions feeling heard and validated but also held accountable for making changes when needed.

How do you adapt therapy to the person in front of you instead of expecting them to fit a particular model?
I think I'm really good at adapting my therapy approach to the person in front of me. Through sessions I am being aware of patterns I notice and what tends to work for each person. I often get clients who have experienced therapy in the past and always ask them what worked really well and what did not work well for them. I will switch gears to adapt to a clients needs
