Relationships, couples & family life
Couples & Family Therapy in Pittsburgh & across Pennsylvania
When connection feels difficult, roles are changing, or the same tensions keep coming up.
More about this support
You may care deeply about each other and still struggle to feel heard. Together, we can explore communication, intimacy, boundaries and changing responsibilities, with room for your culture, identities and everyday circumstances.
For adult couples and families. Babies in arms are welcome.
In-person options vary by clinician and location.
Your relationships have a context
What happens between you is connected to what each person carries.
What each person brings
The ways you learned to handle conflict, your culture, gender and family expectations, and the support available to you can all shape a relationship. You may have different understandings of closeness, responsibility or what it means to show that you care.
What everyday life asks of you
There may also be financial pressure, unequal caregiving responsibilities, different sensory needs, or experiences of discrimination affecting your time and capacity.
These circumstances belong in the conversation. Together, we can explore what each person needs, how familiar patterns developed, and what feels possible in your actual life.

Questions about couples and family therapy
Do we need to be married or in a crisis?
You can seek support when something feels difficult or when you want to understand each other better. Forward Wellness works with couples and partners; marriage is not a requirement.
Relationship counseling can also offer support when changes in your lives are affecting how you relate to one another.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ couples and polyamorous relationships?
Yes. Selected clinicians work with queer, trans and gender-diverse people, and with polyamorous and kink communities.
Experience varies across the team, so let us know what kind of support you are seeking and what you want your therapist to understand.
Can therapy account for autism or ADHD in a relationship?
Selected clinicians support neurodivergent people as well as couples and partners. You can ask for a therapist who understands differences in communication, sensory needs and processing.
Together, we can explore how these experiences affect your relationships and what support fits.
Do children attend family therapy sessions?
Forward Wellness’s couples and family sessions are for adults. Children do not participate in this family therapy service; babies in arms are welcome.
Let us know who you hope to attend with so we can clarify the available options.
What does couples or family therapy cost?
Fees and payment arrangements depend on the clinician and service.
Ask specifically about couples or family appointments so we can clarify the cost, any available sliding-scale options and whether insurance can be used for the proposed service.
What if I am seeking relationship support on my own?
Tell us that you would like individual support with relationship or family concerns.
Individual therapy can give you space to explore your own experiences, needs and choices. We can discuss which service and clinician may fit what you are looking for.
Start with what’s happening between you.
Perhaps the same tensions keep returning, you feel further apart, or something in your lives is changing. Share what has been happening and what you hope could feel different.
You can start with the words you have.
