"When you can't look on the bright side, I will sit with you in the dark"
"Trauma creates change you don't choose. Healing is about creating change you do choose" -Michelle Rosenthal
What is Trauma? Trauma can be BIG events (Big T) or small events that happen frequently and build overtime (little T). This article is helpful in describing these two types of trauma and potential effects it may have on individuals.
How does therapy help? Whether you are experiencing flashbacks or trigger thought responses, our trauma therapists are trained to help you process these. Our goal with trauma, much like grief, is to help you place the event (or events) on your timeline of life. There should be the before, during and after. We are here to help you navigate the during to create the after you want. We call this 'Post-traumatic Growth".
The grieving process is a natural and vital part of recovery from loss. Loss due to death or a life event (divorce, job loss and so forth) can be experienced the same way. You may find yourself feeling lost, empty, tired and depressed.
We live in a society that chooses not talk about the death, for the uncomfortable emotions it may bring up – though it is a life event that will happen to everyone. At some point in our lives, everyone will have to work through the stages of grief. Everyone experiences grief differently. We can be effective in assisting you to sort through these complex emotions.
PREGNANCY LOSS / INFANT DEATH
The death of a child is one of life’s most unfair and tragic experiences. The excruciating pain you are carrying is unspeakable. You have lost a baby – but also the hopes and dreams you have had for that child.
Everybody deals with such a loss in his or her own unique way. Lives and circumstances are different, but everyone will go through a process of deep grieving.
The experience of losing a child has changed you forever. You will not see the world the same way you did before your loss. But, after traveling a long road of hurt and healing, you will feel normalcy again, even if it does not seem possible at this time. It will be a different “normal”. I can help you with finding your new normal.
