**Group format is based on a therapeutic support group pilot program in the UK. It has been modified to navigate current research on therapeutic groups for PTSD in the US.**
Getting to know each other - Getting to know you and your story - Getting to know PTSD and Traumatic Birth.
This session will give you the opportunity to get to know each other and breifly share your story. You will be given information about PTSD to help you gain some understanding as to how this may be affecting you personally. There will be space for you to share any coping mechanisms you may be using which enables you to manage your stress, along with this you will gain some coping strategies to help you to manage your stressful experiences.
Traumatic Grief. Mourning what you didn't get.
In this session you will learn different techniques to manage your anxiety and trauma symptoms, while learning the importance of sitting in the discomfort and pain. We will touch on grief and trauma theories. Practicing techniques to support emotional regulation when feeling overwhelmed and pain.
Continuing Trauma Work
In this session we will be looking at our thoughts and how they can be the main cause of stress, plus practicing how to notice our thoughts and let them go. We will also be covering how to accept a difficult experience without judging ourselves. Mindful practices will be included in this session also.
Empowerment - Facing our fears?
A time to explore what fears may we still need to face and what do we need to move forward? Looking at the negativity bias and how to stay with the positive. Navigating acceptance and commitment theories to face our fears and traumatic responses, without allowing them to control our behaviors.
Life after Birth Trauma.
This session will be looking at how to move forward after birth trauma, we will do this by exploring where you are now, looking at what do you still need in order to do life well and what have you gained so far which can help you to move forward. "What do I need to put in place to stop me from relapsing and keep me safe. "
Personal plan, based on learnings from the course; how are you going to move forward e.g. coping strategies. Empowering meditation; letter to self and baby.
