DEPRESSION Feel like getting through the day has become a chore? Things that you used to enjoy now take too much energy and no longer give you pleasure? Isolating yourself from others? Feel that it is becoming harder and harder to concentrate on tasks that seemed simple before? Does life feel like it has a grey blanket over the parts that used to be bright? You may be suffering from depression.
There are many different levels of depression. I will work with you to develop a plan for recovery and challenge you to make the steps needed to help yourself. You are suffering from an illness like any other and you can be well again. You don't need to continue suffering in pain. There is help and there is relief.
ANXIETY Having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Feeling overwhelmed or emotional and physically exhausted? Having bouts of crying mixed with bouts of rage? Feelings of dread without an obvious reason for fear?
Anxiety is an unwelcome feeling most of the time. It can range feeling overwhelmed with stress to panic attacks. Your thoughts can race and you may find yourself obsessing over things that feel irrational. Anxiety can lead to such physical issues as: chronic muscle tension, stomach ailments, heart palpitations, increased sweating, headaches or restlessness.
We can work together to find the cause of the anxiety, the regular triggers, and find successful coping skills to live your life to the fullest with out allowing the anxiety to drive. We utilize research based, effective cognitive behavioral therapy techniques along with other client centered approaches.
OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE TENDENCIES (OCD) Obsessive behaviors or thoughts are anxiety related. They are usually developed as a coping skill to manage anxious feelings. Since this is not a productive or helpful coping skill, eventually it starts to feel heavy and you may feel trapped. We are here to help you navigate away from obsessive compulsive thoughts or behaviors.
We want to retrain your brain to first recognize the anxiety before the thought has played on repeat or before the behavior starts. Utilize extinction techniques for the unwanted behaviors/ thoughts. Then we work to replace those behaviors with a helpful coping skills for managing the anxiety.
